In the days that I have loved you
I have learnt disappointment
The lesson that we all know
That no one is perfect
That we blatantly ignore
And take in precious souls
Open hearts full of expectations
But I had forgotten
To separate loving you
With my mind, from
Loving you with my heart
So I had to learn realistically
That my heart has led me here
Though my logic wants perfection
In the days that I have loved you
I have learnt hatred
That old cliche of
Hating how much I love you
That I constantly dismissed
So that I could turn you loose
And wait patiently to forget you
But it now occurs to me
That forgetting you
With my mind, is not
Forgetting you with my heart
So I had to learn practically
That my heart has led me here
Though my logic wants perfection
In the days that I have loved you
You have never been perfect
But you have always loved me
In the days that I have
Forgotten you
You have never been perfect
But you reminded me frequently
That you have always loved me
In the days that I have loved you
My heart must have known
That only love is truly perfect
