51 films from 23 countries have been selected for this year’s Mobile Film Festival Africa. These films, done exclusively on mobile were selected from 497 films from 38 countries. The festival was launched with the aim of discovering talented African filmmakers. With it’s unique format 1 Mobile – 1 Minute – 1 Film, the festival is open to all participations without any economic constraint.
Five out of the 51 selected films are from Kenyan producers: Tabasamu by Caroline Mbula, Spin by Jackson Righa, Face Mask on Sale by Neha Manoj Shah, Chizi by James Kuria and Above The Law by Derrick Otieno. All the selected films can be accessed through the Mobile Film Festival Africa website and social media pages.
For this edition of the Mobile Film Festival Africa, the awards will be 18 500€ for a production aid:
- Grand Prize Africa:10 000€
- French-speaking Award 2 500 €
- Original Music Score Award: 2 500 €
- Documentary Film Award: 2 000 €
- African Female Director Award: 1 500 € offered
These grants will enable the winners to make a film with professional means in the following year.
The award ceremony is scheduled for the 25th of March 2021 in Tunis.
