Migori Senator Ben Okello is dead

Migori Senator Ben Oluoch Okello has died. This is after a protracted battle with throat cancer. The first time Senator succumbed to cancer at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi where he had been recuperating months after returning from India.

The Senator lost the battle to cancer on Tuesday, 19th of June, 2018.

Born in 1963,the senator who was until last year when he joined politics was a renowned radio personality among the Luo community. He endeared himself to the people through his breakfast show ‘Kogwen Gi BOO’ (dawn time with BOO) at Ramogi Fm.

The late Ben Oluoch Okello was famously known with his initials “BOO”. He had previously worked at the Kenya Broadcasting Co-orperation (KBC) and later joined the Royal Media Services, Ramogi Fm until last year when he joined politics.

He was elected on an ODM ticket as the second Senator for Migori, a seat previously held by Dr. Winfred Machage who ran for the Kuria West Constituency parliamentary seat.

He will be fondly remembered by his loyal listeners at Ramogi and the entire Gor Mahia fraternity where he served as a publicity secretary.

His body has been moved to the Lee Funeral Home. He is survived by a loving wife and children.

Details for his burial will be communicated later.

Leaders across the country, including opposition leader Raila Odinga, have send their condolences to the family and friends expressing their dismay for the death of the former journalist and support to the family during this trying moment.
