Call for films to the Mobile Film Festival Africa Competition


Mobile Journalism Africa in partnership with Mobile Film Festival Africa wishes to announce that the deadline for the call for films to Mobile Film Festival Africa has been extended to July 7, 2020. 


The ongoing call encourages those who reside in Africa to submit One 1-minute film shot on mobile and in any language. Those who wish to submit are reminded that the films can be on any theme they choose. Those who will submit entries to this competition stand a chance of winning production grants of up to €18,000. The grant will enable the winning participants to produce a short film with the help of a producer and using professional means within a year.

The awards

The awards will be as follows:

Africa Grand Prize: €10,000

French-speaking Film Award: €2,500 awarded by TV5 Monde

Original Music Score Award: €2,000 awarded by SACEM

Documentary Film Award: €2,000 awarded by Yebo!

African Female Director Award: €1,500 awarded by Tazama Festival

Other prizes awarded by the jury will be Actress Award and Actor Award. The audience will also be invited to give an award. 

Participants must ensure that they use copyright-free music or with the author’s permission. Also, they should not embed subtitles into the film as this will be done via DotSub once the film is submitted. Please read the submission steps below.

Due to the pandemic, the dates of the online festival and the Awards ceremony in Africa are being deliberated upon and will be published as soon as the final decision is reached. Participants are advised to ensure their safety as they undertake the shooting of films.
