A nine-year-old girl who was kidnapped 10 days ago while walking home from school in Meru County has been found dead.
The body of Maribel Kapolon, a daughter of Meru Senior Resident Magistrate Carol Kemei, was found dumped at Gitoro Forest in Meru on Sunday evening by a member of the public who alerted the police.
“Police officers accompanied by scene of crime personnel and DCI Imenti North Division rushed to the scene and found one decomposed body in school uniform with one shoe worn,” reads part of a police report on the incident.
The girl from Consolata Primary School was walking home alongside two other pupils when a stranger called her by name. As she went to listen to the stranger her schoolmates left, leaving her with the man who would then disappear with her.
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of the girl.
The body was taken to Meru Level Five Hospital mortuary as further investigations continue.
